Oak stair and bookshelf
An oak-clad stair with a full-height bookshelf built into the stairwell wall, black steel balustrade, and the underside and edges finished to match.
The stair is clad in oak on every face you can see, including the stair edges and the underside, which is the part most jobs leave in a different finish and exactly where the eye goes from below.
The bookshelf is built into the stairwell wall and runs the full height, lit by the window above it. The shelf lines were set out from the treads so each shelf sits on a consistent line as you climb.
The balustrade is slim black steel, fixed through the stringer so the oak stays unbroken, and the understairs is lined in the same timber so the whole element reads as one piece of joinery.
