Kids play area privacy screen
A horizontal hardwood screen above the glass balustrade of the kids play area, giving the terrace privacy from the neighbouring building without closing off light or view.
The play area sits directly across from neighbouring windows, so the brief was privacy without turning the terrace into a box. The screen runs as horizontal boards with an even gap between each one, which breaks the sight line across but still lets light and air straight through.
It is carried on steel posts fixed back through the existing balustrade structure rather than to the glass, with the boards running past the posts so the fixings sit behind the face. Everything is stainless or galvanised. This is a coastal site, and anything else stains the timber inside a season.
Boards are hardwood in a dark oil, tying back to the timber already used through the rest of the terrace.
